Our Original Bebop Story Circa 2021

We know what it’s like to be a patient and it's seriously boring.

The lack of creativity in products and design throughout the cancer experience can be isolating, depressing, and demoralizing. That’s why we’re here. We want patients to know that they’re not alone. That there isn’t just a cancer experience, but a human experience with unique needs and interests. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore a world of creativity and hope, whether as a patient, family-member, friend, nurse or even doctor. The cancer experience effects us all. You should never have to feel ashamed for wanting something beautiful and fun; it should be part of the healing process. That’s who we serve. We face the reality. We serve everyone.

How The Bebop Foundation Came to Be

In 2020 our founder, Eyal Schechter was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. The experience changed his life, catapulting his life to a new purpose. Eyal began to design his own cancer merch and knick-knacks and realized the influence of these products wasn't merely to enojy creating anymore but that they became a pause in the entire experience. The signature image of a two-toned popsicle that Eyal had created before Bebop, began from his time working for an industrial opsicle manufacturer. The concept behind the popsicle was that for whatever time you eat a popsicle you don't worry, you don't fear, it's a if there is a break in time. Highlighting the desire to not disregard reality in moments of peril, but rather to take a breathe, look around, see not just how you are but how those around you are. When you have cancer those moments are often far and few between.
Eyal's grandmother Roberta "Bobbie" Galex, had originally started her own organization called "Hospital Art" putting art on the walls of hospitals made by her own local community. This is a huge inspiration for Eyal. He loves his grandmother :)
In 2023, Eyal turned Bebop & Gazpacho into a true business and formed the non-profit The Bebop Cancer Foundation. Moving from a focus on just merchandise to a multi-faceted brand looking at desiging functional creative solutions to the cancer experience.
